Hurlstone Joinery makes timber doors in Dorset, handmade by Ollie Hurlstone in his own workshop. Every door is made from scratch to match the character of the home it’s going into. If you’ve got an older or period property and you want a door that looks like it belongs, that’s what Ollie does.

He makes handmade timber doors of all kinds. Wooden doors for the front and back of the house, bespoke doors made to fit awkward openings, oak doors, and stable doors for those who want them. Each one is made to measure. Older homes rarely have a standard-sized opening, so Ollie makes the door to fit what’s there rather than forcing it.

He uses quality timber and traditional joinery techniques, and takes the time to get it right. The doors are built to last and made to suit the look of a period home, so a new one doesn’t sit there looking new and out of place. Can you make a door to fit an odd or non-standard opening?

Yes, and this is exactly where a handmade door earns its keep. Older homes rarely have square, standard openings, so Ollie makes each timber door to fit the actual opening rather than forcing your house to suit a stock size.

Should I choose oak or another timber for my door?

It depends on the look you want and where the door sits. Oak is hard-wearing and beautiful for an external or feature door, while other timbers can be a sensible choice for painted doors or a tighter budget. Ollie will talk you through the trade-offs honestly.

Can you match a period or original door?
