Hurlstone Joinery makes timber windows in Dorset, all handmade by Ollie Hurlstone in his own workshop. Everything is made by hand, from scratch, to suit the house it’s going into. If you’ve got an older home or a period property and you want windows done properly, that’s the sort of work Ollie does.

He makes traditional timber windows, replacement windows and bespoke wooden windows. Casement windows and sash windows, both. Each one is made to measure, so it fits the opening you’ve actually got rather than a standard size that’s close enough. On older houses nothing is square or quite the same as the one next to it, and that’s fine. Ollie works to what’s there.

He uses good timber and traditional joinery techniques. No shortcuts and no rushing it. The windows are built to last, the way the old ones did, and made to sit right in a period property so they look like they belong. If you’re matching existing windows or replacing ones that have had their day, Ollie will make them to suit.

A lot of his work comes from people who’ve had him round once and then told a neighbour. He takes his time and he’s fair on price.

Questions

Can you match existing or period windows?

Yes. Ollie makes timber windows from scratch to match what you already have, copying the profiles, glazing bars and proportions of the originals so a replacement sits right in a period home. This is a big part of his work on older properties across Dorset, where off-the-shelf windows simply won’t fit or look correct.

Do you make both sash and casement windows?

He does. Whether you need traditional sliding sash windows or side-hung casements, each one is handmade to suit your openings and your house. Tell him what you have and what you’re trying to achieve and he’ll advise on the right style.

Do timber windows last?

Well-made timber windows, looked after with the odd repaint, last for decades, which is why so many period homes still have their originals. Because Ollie builds them by hand from quality timber using traditional methods, his Dorset timber windows are made to stay the course.
